International Match Fishing Rules

The following organise international competition and consequently define the rules, usually by an annual rules committee meeting.

International Fly Fishing Association (IFFA)

(founded 1928) a non-profit responsible for the International Fly fishing matches between England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. The present members of the association are the governing bodies of competitive fly fishing in

  • England, Confederation of English Fly Fishers (CEFF)
  • Ireland, Irish Trout Fly Fishing Association (ITFFA)
  • Scotland, Scottish Anglers National Association (SANA)
  • Wales, Welsh Salmon and Trout Angling Association (WSTAA)

They are responsible for the

Confédération Internationale de la Peche Sportive (CIPS) – International Angling Confederation

The confederation is made up of the following international federations and covers all flavours of angling competition

International Game Fishing Association (IGFA)

is responsible for (American and) World Sport Fishing Records the 2004 Rule book in PDF format 2009 Rules both bait fishing and fly fishing rules are in the document.

    Night fishing is not allowed on any of our waters. (Rule 21)

    Second Rod permits are required when fishing using a Second Rod, 3rd and 4th rods are not allowed


    The permit is available from the Ticket and Licence Secretary ONLY (Rule 25), you will need to produce your Yearbook and EA rod licence.
