2009 Saltaire Angling Association rules

  1. All members must familiarise themselves with the Rules contained herein as every member accepting a copy of these Rules and Regulations binds him/her self to abide by the provisions and agrees to do all in his/her power to have them carried out, both in the letter and spirit. No claim of ignorance of these Rules will be accepted as an excuse for breaking them.
  2. The Members book does not constitute a rod licence and the appropriate Environment Agency Licence must be obtained. Children do not need a rod licence until they reach the age of requirement as set out by the Environment Agency which is currently 12 years.
  3. This society shall have for its objects; Fish culture, the protection to fish from netting, poisoning, etc., and the encouragement of true Angling, and shall be designated The Saltaire Angling Association.
  4. The society shall be governed by a President, two Vice Presidents, Treasurer, General Secretary, Match Secretary and a Committee of 12 members, 4 of whom shall hold office for three years, 4 for two years and 4 for one year. 4 to be elected for three years at each AGM, The committee shall elect a Chairman for the year at its first meeting, five to form a quorum at any meeting of the committee. To be appointed to any position of office, members will have served 5 years on the general committee.
  5. That the Saltaire Angling Association continue to exist as long as there is a membership of over 20. In the event of it being necessary to disband, all assets shall be disposed of and any proceeds given to Saltaire charities.
  6. Neither the association or any member thereof, nor the Committee nor any member thereof shall be liable for or in respect of any loss or injury sustained by any member of the association arising out of any act or omission negligently done or omitted to be done by the Committee or member thereof or a trustee or member of the association in or about the exercise or failure to perform or observe any duty owed to the association or its members.
  7. The Committee shall elect three of its members to act as Trustees on behalf of the Club with any two of these to sign all papers, the trustees cannot act without the agreement of the general committee. The current trustees are Richard East, Geoffrey Lumb, and William Michael Troman.
  8. The Trustees and Executive Officers shall be indemnified by the Club for any liabilities or damages they might incur whilst carrying out bona fide Club business, and those liabilities shall be limited to the value of the assets of the club.
  9. No member is allowed to pledge the credit of Saltaire Angling Association.
  10. The following officials will be re-elected and will remain in office until the dates below. Upon these dates they will face re-election for a period of 3 years.
    • Treasurer – Nov 2010
    • General Sec – Nov 2011
    • Ticket and Licence Sec – Nov 2009
    1. All officials will be granted a free yearbook whilst in office, to be relinquished on retiring.
    2. Any committee member missing two consecutive meetings without excuse shall be dropped from the committee.
  11. Any business of vital importance for the association to be given privately to the Secretary to be dealt with by a special Committee namely – Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary – then report to General Committee.
  12. That the General Committee have full power to deal with all matters not covered by the association rules until the next AGM where such matters can be discussed and voted on if need be.
  13. No member shall be allowed to attend committee meetings except through the permission of the Chairman.
  14. The annual meeting of the members of the society (of which 2 days notice must be given) will be held in the month of November of each year. At this meeting the annual report and balance sheet shall be read, and the Officers and Committee elected for the ensuing year.
  15. Persons shall be admitted as members on the following terms, acceptance of, and compliance with the rules of the club, an annual subscription of £20.00 which shall entitle the member to all the privileges of the Association. All subscriptions must be paid in advance. The tickets of membership to terminate on December 31st of each year. Youths under 16 years of age, £10.00, Ladies £10.00, Disabled £10.00, OAP’s £10.00. Subscription reduced from September 30th to December 31st to £5.00.
  16. Adult day ticket £2.00, Junior and Ladies £1.00, Adult Weekly ticket £4.00, Junior £2.00. That all persons fishing in the River Aire and Leeds/Liverpool canal without a day ticket be charged double the above day ticket fee.
  17. The committee shall have discretionary power to grant free tickets to aged anglers.
  18. Every angler holding a ticket from the society shall, if requested, show the same to any owner or occupier of land or servant of same, upon which the society’s members have leave; or to any watcher or member of the society. Members should carry their Membership book or day ticket at all times when fishing Club waters. A member failing to produce a Membership book when requested to do so by a properly authorised person will be asked to leave the fishery and must send his/her book within 7 days to the Secretary enclosing a stamped addressed envelope for the book’s return or he/she will be reported to the Committee. Failure to attend this meeting may lead to a public banning from future membership of the club.
  19. If any person holding a ticket of the society be known to have wilfully or carelessly damaged the property of any occupier of land on the associations preserves, or be the cause of the same shall be requested to pay an amount equivalent to the damage done, or caused to be done, to the person whose property is damaged; and he shall likewise pay a fine to be decided on by the committee, to the funds of the society. Also at any meeting the committee shall have discretionary power of expelling any member if they think it desirable for the good of the character of the society; the member thus expelled to forfeit all money paid by him to the society.
  20. No member shall be allowed to angle 1 hour before sunrise or 1 hour after sunset.
  21. That no fish to be taken from the Association’s waters except trout and grayling over 12 inches (30.5 cm) long and pike under 5 lbs. No member shall remove more than 2 fish in any one day from any of the associations waters.
  22. No new Rule shall be made nor any of the rules herein contained or hereafter to be made shall be amended, altered or rescinded, unless passed at the Annual General Meeting. All propositions including propositions for alteration to, amendment of or rescission of Rules shall, unless emanating from the Committee, be delivered to the secretary by the October Committee Meeting prior to the Annual General Meeting of each year. Such propositions to be in writing signed by the proposer and his seconder. Committee recommendations may be decided at any time up to the commencement of the A.G.M.
  23. Members must enter all fields by the gates, closing and fastening them immediately after them and must not cross fields but should follow wall and hedge sides.
  24. That members or visitors fishing our waters be allowed to fish (one rod only) except when piking when a second rod may be used, irrespective of the number of licences held.
  25. Any member who attends and works on three working parties shall be entitled to claim a free Yearbook for the following year.
  26. Winter league teams will be chosen by the Match Secretary and his assistant/assistants as elected by the association.
  27. That all matches will be arranged at the Committee’s discretion. Trophy matches must be fished by more than 10 Anglers to qualify.
  28. All trophy winners will be awarded replica or plaque.
  29. Graham Hoyle trophy for junior members who were 16 years or under at the time of purchasing members book.
  30. That any claim for specimen trout trophy shall be substantiated by two senior members of the association; all claims subject to committee scrutiny.
  31. That all trophies be returned to the secretary by the 30th September each year.
  32. That no-one be allowed to represent Saltaire Angling Association in competition unless he/she is a current member of the association.
  33. No carp to be kept in keep nets except in bona fide matches.
  34. When official Club or Outside booked matches are held on Club waters, the length of water being used shall be closed on that day to members not taking part in the match, until that match has started, and will remain closed for the duration of the match.

    Second Rod permits are required when fishing using a Second Rod, 3rd and 4th rods are not allowed


    The permit is available from the Ticket and Licence Secretary ONLY (Rule 25), you will need to produce your Yearbook and EA rod licence.
